Citycide:
Parking lots are deadly where ever they appear, but when they “define” a corner their poison is even stronger. This suburban style box-in-a-parking-lot chain store is located in the heart of the Hillcrest business district – one of San Diego’s oldest and most urban neighborhoods. Parking lots provide no defined street wall, no sense of place, and stored cars provide no street life.
CityVive: Active Architecture
One block up 5th Avenue, Hillcrest’s urban form shines through. The street corner and street wall is well defined by a building that gives an immediate sense of place and identity. Windows at the street level provide lots of life and the possibility for human connections.
