This week’s question: “What would you name San Diego’s bike share system?” **
Bike Share is coming to San Diego next Spring! DecoBike LLC, a Miami, Fl based company, was chosen to install and operate the system.
DecoBike debuted in the great Art Deco District of South Beach. The name “DecoBike” makes perfectly good sense for Miami – a city well known for its Art Deco architecture.
San Diego, on the other hand, isn’t known for Art Deco architecture. So what should San Diego’s bike share system be called, assuming that we get to choose.
GSSD is looking for your suggestions. To get you thinking, below are the names of other City’s bike share systems around the world.
Bixi – Monteal. A combination of “bicycle” and “taxi”
Bubi – Budapest. A combination of “Budapest” and “bicycle”. (pronounced [boo-bie] … no third grade snickering, please)
Divvy – Chicago. “Divide and Share”
CitiBike – NYC. Named after the sponsor, Citibank
Spokies – Oklahoma City. Spokes, Okies – get it?
Niceride – Minneapolis, St. Paul. – It is the midwest, after all.
Velib – Paris, France. merge of Velos en libre-service
Capitol Bike Share – Washington DC
Your suggestions will be published in next Monday’s post.
