29 October 2011, Saturday
9:30 AM – 11:00 AM
GSSD’s first “Jane’s Walk” is Saturday, October 29th, 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM. Enjoy this walking tour through your neighborhood and see it through Jane Jacobs’ eyes. To join, contact Jane’s Walk at firstname.lastname@example.org. Space will be limited to 10 people.
Everyone is welcome. Information will be sent to you on exact meeting location once you have signed up.
What was formally a large Sears store with parking lot is now a successful mixed used development. We’ll start in Uptown and talk about what Jane Jacobs might think about the development. Continuing up University Avenue we’ll look at the street and talk about its past, present and future. Emphasis will be on GSSD and Jane Jacobs four basic principles of good cities.
The next GSSD Jane’s Walk will be in another neighborhood, so hope you can join us for the Uptown walking tour.
11 August 2011.
“Design and Planning”
A GSSD favorite, Geoffrey West, will be speaking at 7:45. You can listen to a podcast where he talks about his theory of cities right here on the GSSD website. For more information about the Summer Salon Series, click on the link above. The New York Times featured West in a December 2010 article.
