A new film by Eric Minh Swenson.

Cherie Benner Davis was born and raised in Orange County, CA and came of age in the late 1970s/early 80s, the era in which a burgeoning punk rock scene was taking hold in Southern California. She spent her late teenage years participating in this rebellious and energetic subculture. These were formative for her and strains of those heady, freewheeling days still color her creative life to this day.

The daughter of a French professor, Ms. Davis lived in France on two occasions, the second time to pursue studies in fine art, language and art history while living in Paris. She completed her studies with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing at California State University, Long Beach In 1997.

While in graduate school Cherie served as President of the Graduate Art Students League where she originated and lead projects that promoted both the students and the College. In 1997 she was awarded the Marilyn Werby Scholarship, a MFA Thesis/exhibition award; and in 1998 she was honored to receive the Outstanding Graduate Award for the College of the Arts at California State University, Long Beach.

Ms. Benner Davis maintains a rigorous art practice and works with Carl Solway Gallery in Cincinnati, Oh and was represented by Solwayjones Gallery in Los Angeles until their close in 2010. Ms. Davis’ work has been exhibited at many galleries and institutions including Charlie James Gallery; PØST; Jancar Gallery; Acuña Hansen Gallery; Ruth Bachofner Gallery; Muzeumm; DiRT; Patricia Correia Gallery; Frumkin/Duval Gallery; Andrew Shire Gallery; Miller Durazo Fine Art; Rubygreen; the Torrance Art Museum; San Diego Art Institute; Irvine Fine Art Center; Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery: Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavillion; W. Keith & Janet Kellogg Art Gallery; University Art Museum, California State University, Long Beach; California State University Fullerton; California State Los Angeles; Pierce College Art Gallery. Her work has also been featured at Art Palm Springs Fair and also Scope Art Fair in Miami, FL.
