At a news conference, the Food Bank announced the launch of its new Mobile Food Pantry truck generously funded by donations from Hunger Is and the Albertsons Vons Foundation. The ribbon cutting ceremony included Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, Albertsons Vons Area Vice President Rick Williams, USO San Diego CEO Lorin Stewart, and the Food Bank’s CEO Jim Floros.

The 26-foot refrigerated Mobile Food Pantry will provide fresh produce and other fresh, healthy foods at sites throughout San Diego County to individuals and families in need. In particular, the Mobile Food Pantry will serve rural and remote parts of the county, locations that serve low-income military families, and food insecure college students through our College Hunger-Relief Program. Each distribution will provide nearly 8,000 pounds of food to an average of 200 households.

Special thanks to our guests for joining us, and to USO San Diego’s Liberty Station Center for hosting the news conference.
