In 1981, News 8’s Jesse Macias did a three-part series on “the future of technology” in San Diego. For the second part of the series, Macias looked at how computers were being used by businesses and homes in San Diego. Our reporter explained that the systems being used on computers were called “programs” and they were stored on “this plain-looking piece of plastic called a diskette.” People were seen taking classes to learn how to use computer systems which ran about ,000.

“With so many computers doing so much, are we becoming a society totally dependent on computers?” our forward-thinking reporter pondered.
